GET TO KNOW ME

RiseUp-30.jpg

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to get into a career path that would make a difference in people’s lives. This interest and passion led me to study psychology to provide support to those in need and make a difference.

I truly care for all of my clients, and work diligently to help them find the answers they seek. Since 2016, I have worked with a variety of patients and clients in outpatient and inpatient levels of care to cope with eating recovery, trauma, depression, anxiety, stress management, and executive functioning. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia as well as a National Certified Counselor and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Currently I am working towards my Certified Eating Disorder Specialist certification through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.  I have also studied Intuitive Eating and follow a Health at Every Size approach to recovery.  Over the years I have enjoyed offering group settings for adolescents and college aged clients in recovery for eating disorders.  I enjoy working with this age group and try to provide a safe space for teens or young adults to navigate different life challenges while they explore their journey in recovery.

I am honored my clients choose to share their stories with me regarding eating disorder recovery, traumatic experiences, depression, anxiety, or life transitions. My clients come to me with day to day stressors and major life events where we process thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. During our sessions my clients want a safe space to feel heard and supported through the various challenges life brings their way and I strive to provide that.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT

Sometimes the thought of sharing our deepest thoughts and feelings with a stranger seems overwhelming, and I completely understand that! It takes time to build rapport with a therapist and feel comfortable to share and allow ourselves to be vulnerable.  During your first session with me it will involve getting to know each other.  We go through intake documents and I utilize different assessments to help guide the session to better understand you and to get an idea of goals you want to work on together.  During this time I also provide opportunities for you to ask me questions as well. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is a healing process and we all go through that journey at our own pace.  As a therapist I want to provide a safe space for you to share whatever you need to process.  So just know that it is okay to share things when you are ready.

A BIT ABOUT MY THERAPY STYLE

Therapeutic Modalities

There are multiple evidence based therapeutic approaches available that are used in therapy.  I tend to favor an integrative approach that combines tools or skills from multiple modalities to fit the needs of each individual client.  Therapy is not a one size fits all approach and what works for one client may not be best for another.  Here is a brief overview of a few of the modalities I tend to favor!

* Person Centered Therapy

*Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy

*Dialectical Behavior Therapy

*Family Based Therapy

*Emotion Focused Family Therapy and Internal Family Systems

*Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

*Somatic techniques to connect Mind and Body

I love to incorporate art, music, and journaling in sessions as well to give clients a chance to process thoughts or emotions in other ways.  During the first few sessions we may take some time working together to better understand your symptoms, how it affects you most, and collaborating on coping skills to try out and see what works best!
